An architectural detail on the outside of one of the newer buildings at Reading University. I have walked past this many times until I did one day with a camera in my bag. I liked the lines against the plain wall.Taken with the little Olympus Mju II that you can see on the right of the blog.
This is a neat little camera that I bought for my wife a good few years back; when digital came along it seemed to lie forgotten in a drawer until I decided to run a couple of films through it a couple of weeks back.
It was born out of the success of the XA series, but this has auto-focus and you can also select spot metering. It has a fantastic little 2.8 lens, very sharp, and it really does fit in a trouser pocket. It's brilliant for street shooting. The only gripe I have is that every time you close the 'clamshell' sliding front and turn the camera off, it reverts to default settings, so the flash goes back to 'auto', and ordinarily I hate flash, especially for sneaky street shots. Each time you open the clamshell you have to select flash off on the back. It just means leaving the camera on more and switching it off less. Great little camera. In the US it is called a Stylus II for any US readers. I believe other variants came out with a 3.5 lens, and one variant had a zoom lens as well.

Love the simplicity of this image John. I used to love my simple little Olympus camera too - not quite the same as the one featured but similar. I may still have it somewhere...
I love this! Very clean. Very chic.
So unique!
You have prented the essence of simplicity in photography. Well done!
PS Thank you for the link - the war on Crete was ugly indeed.
A perfect b&wh shot!!!!! Very well done!
I like the simplicity of the photo. Very neat and distinct.
Isn't it interesting how we walk past interesting pictures every day and often dont see them.
This is great, so simple, so stylish and I just LOVE it!:)
Very nice! Those stepped lines have a strange effect. Fine black and white photo, and obviously a great little camera.
Interesting artistic angles in your image. Pleasant to ponder.
I love the forms and the composition in this one John. Makes a lovely B&W image. I have that same camera aka Olympus Stylus Epic (USA version). The 35/2.8 lens is so good it's scary.
I so wish I could set the ISO manually. I have mine loaded with Kodak BW400 C-41 and have been carrying it around for the past few weeks.
Fabulous geometric shot with clean simple lines.
Great shot John! Old camera and modern architecture make for a great photo.
I love the clearness and simplicity of the photograph. The stair seems to be upside down like in an image from Escher.
Simple and beautiful. I really like this and am so glad you had your little Olympus with you. You have quite a collection of cameras, John. But the thing that impresses me is that you use them so adeptly. Do you process your own film as well to get such a fine image?
Stunning b+w photo. I liked the info about the camera too, my wife had an XA.
So Graphic ! Love it
